Bowley Bridge, Pevensey, East Sussex
Client:   Environment Agency, Pevensey Office (Andrew Walker 01903 832611)
Cost:   £45k
Duration:   10 days (March 2009)
project overview

The works consisted of the design and construction of a replacement bridge at Bowley, Nr. Newbridge, Pevensey Levels, East Sussex. The works involved replacing the existing bridge deck with new reinforced concrete planks, replacement of the existing abutments with new sheet piles and mass concrete in-fill and replacement of the parapets.

The new reinforced concrete bridge deck (above right) was designed and fabricated ‘in-house’ at our depot in Hale Common, Isle of Wight and transported direct to site using one of our fleet lorries (above left). The existing decking was replaced and the river banks were stabilised with 6m driven sheet piles and reinforced concrete pile capping. The existing concrete decking was recycled for future use as aggregate.

The plant and machinery used on this project was a combination of our own fleet and locally hired equipment.
